Velvet Curtain Fabric
Depending on the direction that you look at a velvet, it can look a different shade due to the reflection of light. Generally we suggest making curtains with the pile running down, this stops the trapping of dust but it is not unusual for the pile to be running upwards (gives a deeper and fuller colour). It is very important that each width of velvet runs in the same direction when joining. Also, it is highly recommended by the British manufacturers that curtains are lined which prevents pile-loss and colour fading through sunshine. Lining will give a far better draping and appearance as with all curtains. Please always ask the advice of your curtain maker before commencement of making your curtains.
Before choosing your curtain fabric there are a few points to consider about the type of fabric, type of curtains, curtain lining, curtain pole, pelmets or valences and about how much fabric you will need. Take a look at our measure & calculate page to help you with all these points.
