Ticking Upholstery Fabric

Ticking is a strong, heavy, stiff, tightly woven fabric of 100% cotton or linen and has a close even weave.  It is recognizable by its pattern, usually narrow darker colour stripes with a cream or white background but it can have wider stripes.  It is traditional and easily recognized.  For many years it has been used for deck-chairs, to make pillows as good holding feathers, mattress covers and now is a very up-to-date fabric.  Ticking has now become increasingly popular for upholstering pieces of furniture. As a timeless design its ideal for many rooms.

We sell both fire retardant fabrics and fabrics that are not fire retardant. Some fabrics, whilst being suitable for upholstery with regards to fabric weight, it may require treating to the relevant British Safety Standard if you are to use your chosen fabric to cover furniture or other items in the home. Alternatively you could use a flame retardant barrier cloth with your chosen fabric when doing upholstery.

We always recommend that you dry clean our ticking stripe fabrics at a specialist dry cleaners.

All our ticking upholstery fabrics are available both online and in store from our fabric warehouse in Northamptonshire.
