Founded in 1987 SMD is a family owned company with a heritage almost as colourful as its home county of Lancashire. The region is famed for cotton spinning, weaving, printing and dyeing is a source of national pride. It’s the industry that contributed to the North of England becoming the powerhouse for the nation’s expansion and prosperity from the dawn of the industrial revolution.
The company, located in the heart of where so many iconic furnishing fabrics were designed and printed is renowned for its library of classic archive inspired artwork together with its high fashion, trend led, contemporary designs.
Since establishing its own in-house design studio in 1990 SMD has continued to grow to be a market leader in designer fabrics. Launched in 2013, ILIV, replaced the companies Swatch Box label. Over the last 5 years ILIV has become the UK’s fastest growing "Premium" Interior Fabric Brand. The Group employs around 100 colleagues who are recognised worldwide for an obsession with excellent customer service.
