Check Fabric

A check is a pattern of modified stripes consisting of crossed horizontal and vertical lines forming squares. The check pattern has a number of symbolic meanings, for example, in auto racing, the chequered flag is displayed at the finishing line to signal that the race has finished. In some countries, the check pattern has become a symbol of the police. In soft furnishings, check fabrics provide a timeless injection of pattern into a room, whether its a small gingham check for a country kitchen or a tartan plaid for Highland interiors. Too much check can sometimes be overwhelming so it is important to introduce it in subtle quantities. Traditionally check fabrics are associated with the Scottish Highlands. The size of checks in our fabrics vary from small checks that are only visible close up, to large, bold checks. Our check fabrics are predominantly wool fabrics but we also have 100% cotton prints, heavyweight weaves and linen mixes.

We always recommend that you dry clean our check fabrics at a specialist dry cleaners unless stated otherwise on our website.

You can buy all our check fabrics online and in store from our fabric warehouse in Northamptonshire.
