Silk Curtain Fabric
Silk's beautiful appearance and drape makes it suitable for upholstery, wall coverings, window treatments rugs, bedding and wall hangings, but only the silk of moth caterpillars is suitable. Some lighter silks are regularly used for quality clothing. Silk is a natural protein fibre that can be woven into textiles. It is obtained from the cocoon of the silkworm larva, in the process known as sericulture, which kills the larvae. The shimmering appearance for which it is recognized is from the fibres triangular prism-like structure, which allows silk cloth to refract incoming light at different angles.
A variety of wild silks, produced by caterpillars other than the mulberry silkworm (latin name Bombyx mori) and several other insects have been known and used in China, South Asia, and Europe since ancient times. but is a very small proportion compared to the cultivated silk.
